Wow.

I just read my last few posts from 2013...WAAAAAAYYYY back in February.  Before my birthday.  Before my husband of 18 years had an affair with a mom from the kids' school and left me.  While I was just freaked out thinking he was depressed.  Before I found out about the affair.  Before he moved all of his stuff out, filed for divorce, and moved in with her.  Before I went on the river with friends. Before I started dating again, quite by accident initially, a wonderful man.  Before I decided not to do the Mountain Man HIM because I was having trouble being consistent with training.  Before I took my kids on several vacations alone. Before I committed to run the Tucson Marathon and then had to switch to the Half because I hadn't properly built my base.  Before I decided I'm not ready to train for a Full Ironman yet.  Before I realized how truly blessed I am with so much in my life.  You get what I'm saying?  You understand?  It's been a big year.

So, I am in the process of examining my goals for next year, and I intend to make them public again.  Some of my goals from last year got derailed because of circumstances, but sometimes life hands you new goals.  Life says, "Yeah, those goals are great, and all, but how about you work on this, instead.  It might benefit you more in the long run.  When all is said and done, you might be happier than you thought was possible."  Life is funny that way.  I'm actually grateful in most respects for the changes.  I'm a happier person.  I'm a thinner person.  I have no idea what I weighed a year ago, but I now weigh 131.  Running at 131 is easier than it was in the 160s and certainly at 170.  Seriously, how did I carry all of that weight on my tiny frame?  I see myself as a little person now.  I intend to stay that way.  I am happy.

So...what can you expect to see from me?  I'm not sure.  Hopefully more fitness, more consistency, more happy.  But, whatever is supposed to happen will happen, I suppose, so we shall see...

Rough Week Almost Took Wind out of Triathlete's Training Sails...Story at 11

I have decided not to post daily workouts after all, as it is just another responsibility.  I might change my mind again, who knows.  We had a bit of a rough time at our house last weekend, which lead to me having a lot of nervous energy and not sleeping, which lead to some nice, long workouts and getting all of my training for the week done at the beginning.  And losing 6 pounds because I could not force food down my gullet.  Things seem to be getting back to normal, but I'd like to keep that 6 pounds off, thank you.

I took the kids for a hike in Sedona on Monday:

It was nice to get out in the sunshine.  The rest of the week has been uneventful.  Just trying to push the cadence on the bike a little harder, and it's time to start extending my runs.  We are assembling a team for the Ragnar Trail Run in April...more on that soon!  Looking forward to a better week...

Two posts in two days...SHUT UP!

Tuesday:  WU:  25 min; MS: 2 x 15' (4') @ 95-100%/Zone4/Hard; CD (1:00:00)

Wednesday:  WU: .4 mi; MS: 4 x 800 (2-ish') @ 95-100%/Zone4/Hard; CD (3.26 miles; 41:01)

Pretty view

It was nice to get a double in yesterday.  My plan today is to do some core work when I get home in the form of P90X.  Happy Friday...

40 days...

Somehow, my friend, T, wrangled me into a 40-day challenge to coincide with Lent.  I have agreed to physical activity every day for the duration of this challenge.  I have not agreed formally to give anything up, but sugar is my number 1 foe.  I lost the battle this weekend to a little boys' birthday cake that I had shaped and frosted to look like a half-pipe.  My son then tagged it with frosting spray paint.  It was cute, and delicious.  I also had an ass-kicking week of exercise, so I didn't feel too guilty.  Will and I blazed up Bear Mountain before the storm hit on Friday.  It was beautiful...albeit gusty and chilly.
We made it!!!

Gorgeous vistas that only improved with altitude.
Then on Sunday, I x-country skied to Mount Elden Lookout Road, up it a bit, and back home.
Part of the Arizona Trail...That's Tallulah, not a wolf, in the background.

Yay!

Skiing was a little dicey since the snow cover was not that great.  I kept getting hung up on rocks just under the snow and almost died fell a time or two!

So, I did not follow my training plan to the letter last week, but I was SORE!  Today, I joined the Spin Class from Hell and got my VO2 workout in.  My knee was a little tweaky from mashing big gears, though.  I have been sleeping pretty well, with the exception of the night (or two) I inhaled ate chocolate cake.  I think I am starting to see some bodily changes associated with exercise, aside from my legs, of course, which are like rocks again.  I love being in a groove.  Happy Valentines Day!!!

Whole30 on, Whole30 off (and two life lessons)

I decided to take the weekend off from Whole30 strictness, though for the Superbowl, I made several compliant dishes:  Slow Cooker Beef Brisket, Baba ganoush, artichoke/roasted red pepper tapenade, kale chips, portobello mushroom chips, prosciutto chips, salad.  Let me tell you what...that was a great meal!  I had one beer and a bunch of sparkling water.  And one brownie to celebrate Ps birthday.  So, successful all-in-all.  I had a couple of beers the night before with ribs and sweet potato fries at Satchmo's, which I'm sure wasn't exactly compliant, but did represent the paleo spirit, at least (except the beer).  By the way, the ribs at Satchmo's were DElicious!  On Monday, Ps true birthday, I ate 2 or 3 corn chips with dinner (just didn't want them), and had a piece of cake to celebrate.  I have to say, I slept like crap most of those nights.  Which sucked, since I've been sleeping so well in general.  Lesson 1:  Bad food leads to Bad Sleep.

Training took a little bit of a hit last weekend, as well, mostly because of work and cooking/cleaning/partying.  I have done my workouts this week, however.  I got new running shoes (Ghost5s--LOVE), and no shin pain while running...YAY!  Lesson 2:  If my shins even show the slightest sign of pain, it's time for new shoes.

Hoping to get to the pool once or twice this weekend.  It's less busy, which is good.  We do have a little boy birthday party to throw on Saturday, which means more cleaning and cooking.  Sigh.  Good news:  we got wood for the hot tub, so maybe there will be opportunities to soak this weekend!  That always makes me happy.

Whole30 Day 32 (sort of), Outseason Training Day 26

Soooooo, last night I went to book club to discuss Wild by Cheryl Strayed, which I mostly enjoyed reading, and I ate some soup with beans and cheese in it and drank about 4 oz of red wine.  I enjoyed having the flexibility, since the Whole30 is technically over, to do this and not stand out, but there was a bit of guilt afterward.  I'm not dwelling, but I am pretty resolved to continue with the Whole30 way for a while, because I feel great!  I am sleeping better, and I am more alert in the afternoon and evening.  I'm recovering from training quickly.  As long as I eat some squash or sweet potatoes, I have enough juice to crank out my workouts.  If it ain't broke, don't break it.  I have lost 8 pounds this month, and I am very relieved about this, but I have about 20 more to go, or 25, if I'm honest with myself.  If I want to go faster.  Which I do.  It is going to be a long road, filled with birthdays and valentines day and vacation.  It'll be worth it.

Training:  Going well.  I did a spin class yesterday at the gym instead of my planned VO2 workout.  I felt trepidation, remembering past spin classes, but I was also a little worried I wouldn't get the VO2 training in.  NOT TO WORRY!  Not only did the instructor do exactly what I had on my training plan (2 X 5' 30/30), but she did many additional intervals, as well.  She kicked my ass. I think she was nervous about me (my face gets really red), because she kept watching me and winking.  :) I have to get up at the crack of dawn tomorrow to get my training in, and I'm hopeful I can run on Sunday.  I might have to stop at the running store on the way home and get new shoes...shin splints!!!  I've decided to start swimming next week, also, but we'll see if I actually make it to the gym.

I almost forgot...we did the Color Run in Phoenix last weekend...what a blast!  I would recommend it for anyone with kids.  It was fun and health-promoting, and my kids will remember it forever!

Whole30 Day 24, Outseason Training Day 18

Whole30...this shit got real last weekend.  I was craving JUNK FOOD.  Beer, candy, pastries, cheesecake, ice cream.  You name it, I wanted it.  Part of the problem is that my beloved is not watching what he eats on the weekend, and dessert is what's for dinner.  Watching him chow down on crap is really hard.  When I'm at work or even at home, but my fam is behaved, it is easy easier to make healthy choices.  But when someone is eating multitudes of Reeses, it's more, shall we say...challenging?  I feel better after venting.  I do have to admit that one thing I really, really like about this style of eating is that I can eat fat.  I find fat more satisfying than sugar, and it holds me over for longer than carbs would.  For example, lunch today consisted of chicken salad (made with homemade mayo, clean pickles and other pickled vegges, and celery) on a bed of baby kale.  I am stuffed!  And satisfied.  So, I'm still compliant even though I wanted to buy a pint of Ben and Jerry's Phish Food and dip chocolate-covered pretzels in it.  Done venting.  And I love my family and this is not their issue, it's mine.

Over at Dangle the Carrot, Blogger Jeff Irvin asked an interesting question...whether race weight or fitness level is more important for race times.  This is something my husband and I have been pondering for a while.  It's my firm belief that if I lost 20 pounds, I'd be way faster.  Let's be serious, it would be difficult for me to be slower...my half-marathon times are only slightly faster than Al Roker's.  But if my poor heart didn't have to work as hard to carry the weight, it could work harder to make me faster.  Ditto for muscles, joints, ligaments, tendons, etc.  So, this is why I keep trying to lose weight.  I have been thinner and fitter in the past when I exercise at least 6-8 hours per week (P90X, Triathlon training), but then I get lazy for a while and my gains go away.  Luckily, I'm nowhere near my highest weight ever!!!  Not even close.  Phew!  So I have learned something over the years.  The other interesting thing is that serious triathletes don't drink or eat sugary crap during the training season.  Whole30 fits this model.  I do hope it will work for me.

Outseason training:  Sometimes it kicks my butt.  I am trying to keep my cadence up during rides instead of mashing big gears, but my heart rate is tricksy...It likes to be in Zone 3-4, not so much 5.    I'm not sure what it is about such intensity, but my brain always tells me to stop.  We are working through these issues during V02 workouts, my brain and I.  The shorter intervals are easier for me to conquer...but I think I have never really pushed that hard for very long physically.  This fact explains a lot.  So how do our brains decide we are sedentary or agro when it comes to activity levels?  Is it something I can change, or will I always be swimming against my own natural current?  Would a trainer help me push through that barrier?  I love to watch the Biggest Loser during my bike trainer workouts, because I think that's what the contestants struggle through...obstacles that prevent them from pushing themselves hard when it's hard, and sustaining gains over time, sustaining motivation over time, sustaining inconvenience over time.  I mean, exercising is never really convenient, if I'm honest about it.  It's one of the reasons I find swim training so aversive at times.  The swimming is fine, it's going to the pool, having to wait for a lane, or share a lane, or cut my workout off early because someone else needs a lane, being cold and wet...blah, blah, blah. But that crap sometimes keeps me from going and doing the workout.  Factors that override such obstacles include, but are not limited to:  1) I'm super motivated, 2) It's a time I believe no one will really be at the pool, 3) I'm scared about an upcoming race.  And it's not just the pool...I can't tell you how many open water swim practices I have blown off because conditions weren't perfect.  This is a problem given how much trouble I have had during tri swims.  Sigh.  This honesty is good for me, but will it lead to change?  Stay tuned...

On another note, we went on a beautiful and much needed hike in Sedona this weekend...to Coffee Pot Rock.
Coffee Pot Rock to the right

There was some serious bushwacking going on, as we climbed higher and higher.  Here the kids are after a little solo scrambling adventure.

This is my sweet girl and me at what I believed at the time was the highest point of our crazy scramble.  However, fearless kids were leading the hike, so we kept scrambling higher and higher, until I couldn't go any higher.  I staved off a panic attack at one point, but further up, just decided to sit and wait for the rest to decide they were ready to turn around.  The hike down was fine, of course, though I wasn't sure it would be.  I get really nervous when my kids are around heights like that.  I'm happy we're all alive.

We are headed to the valley for the Color Run on Saturday!  Should be fun or messy, depending on whether it rains on us :)

Whole30 Day 18, Outseason Training, Day 12

So far, 2013 ain't half bad.  The Whole30 plan is going swimmingly.  I have had no real, intended slip-ups, and I feel great...as long as I make sure to replenish carb stores after a workout (e.g., with sweet potatoes or squash).  I like homemade almond milk better than store-bought.  And homemade mayo is easy, as long as the blender does not get too hot and ruin it when it is almost finished.  I have learned that I love spaghetti and butternut squashes, babaganoush, and mashed cauliflower.  Coconut aminos are a nice substitute for soy.  So that's all good, mostly.  I do miss sweets occasionally, but nothing a Turkish fig doesn't cure.

EN's outseason plan is tough, but I am performing better than I hoped I would given the little training and difficulties running over the past 4 months.  I have some shin/calf pain, but my ITB has not acted up.  I did roll last night and will be more consistent about it, because I honestly felt better this morning.

We are thinking about doing the Leadman Olympic in April in Tempe, and I am hoping to be able to get my times down enough to do the Mountain Man Half in August.  We'll see.  There are a few halves after that if I just can't get fast enough, though.

We are doing the Color Run next weekend with the kids, which should be a hoot!  Very excited!

Not much else for now.  Feels nice not to struggle.

Whole30 Day 10!

I'm on Day 10 of the Whole9 Whole30 program, and I have to say, it has not been THAT difficult, thanks to some great resources (e.g., Nom Nom Paleo, It Starts with Food), a great husband, and vacation in the early days when I needed to cook and read and get a feel for what was coming.  Will made paleo shepherd's pie the other night, and I made a yummy chocolate chili this weekend.  Leftovers have bee delicious!  Can't wait to figure out what is coming this weekend...

I started the EN January Outseason on Monday.  Did my bike TT (LTHR pretty pathetic) and my 5K TT this morning (M1:  12:23; M2: 12:23; M3: 12:10--negative split?  Heck, yeah!) in the blustery wind.  I'm feeling so energized that I'm going to the gym right now to bust out a bike workout so I can have a rest day before this weekend's spanking.  So far, I've been able to get out of bed to do what I need to do, so let's keep our fingers crossed that my motivation sticks around.

On a family note, we have entered The Color Run on the 26th with some VIPs...should be a blast! Of course, it will likely be the Color Walk for the kids, but fun nonetheless!

Whole30 Day6

Feeling good.  Went out to dinner with friends last night and it was easier than I hoped it would be. Friends are very understanding ;)  I have also made some interesting things over the past few days, mostly successes with one fail:  mayo.  My first attempt went perfectly, but at the end of the second attempt, everything liquefied...I think the blender got too hot.  I will attempt this feat again today.

I start my outseason training tomorrow, which should be interesting...bike test.  I think my fitness is for sh*t right now, but the only way it gets better is....with training!  I am looking forward to the next test in 8 weeks!

Whole30 Day 3

Well, I am on the 3rd day of Whole30, and so far, no headache, no real cravings.  I'm not sure whether I am grumpy, but I did get very irritated about the stoplights all plotting against me this morning, even though I was early for work.  I feel pretty clear-headed, skin looks okay, but, heck, it's only Day 3, right?!?!?  So far, I've had very delicious food:  eggs with spinach and roasted red peppers for breakfast, chicken salad or leftovers for lunch, and various yum for dinner!  No real desire to snack save 10am yesterday morning, though I drank water and got through it fine.

So, that's Day3 for you.  No workout yesterday.  Might try to bring the fam to the gym today.  Outseason training starts Monday!!!

January 2nd

Dear 2012,

We had sort of a rough relationship.  On the one hand, you really brought out some of the best of me.  Training for and completing the Oceanside HIM was amazing!  My first HIM, my first ocean swim, really, the first challenge I wasn't sure I could take on, and I did it!  So for that, I thank you.

On the other hand, you also brought out the worst of me.  Injury, sloth, gluttony.  The past few months have been awful with respect to exercise and diet.  If you look over the past 3-4 months of posts, which are sparse and desperate, you see a pattern of trying to start something and either a) having an obstacle become "insurmountable" or b) me just plain not following through.  Enough is Enough.  We are done, you and me.  And I am happy to see you go.

So, in order to start 2013 correctly, I have built in a few supports.  I have joined a coaching group to help me train more effectively for the Mountain Man HIM in August.  Because this race is later in the season, I feel like training will be more effective AND I won't have as long to fall off the wagon before I have to decide whether to sign up for IMAZ for 2014.  Also, I have committed to the Whole30 program; actually I've committed to the Whole100, but who's counting?  I feel like I need to get a handle on my diet again, and I've really been flying by the seat of my pants (ever increasing size of pants) since I quit doing Eat to Live.  There were a lot of things I loved about ETL, but my gut HATED me for it, and I feel so much better when I'm eating meat, so I've decided to really give Paleo, and strict Paleo, an earnest attempt.  I'm on Day 2 and feeling better already.

To better manage injury, I commit to rolling, stretching, and working on core strength more often.  We'll see if I pull this part off, but if I stay consistent with training and eating, I will have a really good head start on health.

Lastly, I am committed to continuing to get other areas of my life back in order, and keep them that way.  2012, you were not good for me in most arenas.

So long, 2012.  It was the best of times, the worst of times.  But it's over.  Hopefully 2013 will find me more consistent, and thus happier.  It will be evident in my posts (once a week posts would be a good indication that I am on the right track), I'm sure.

P90X2 Day 4

Completed Total Body workout yesterday morning, which was good...reminiscent of p90X Core Synergystics in some respects, and my abs are sore today.  I enjoyed doing arm weight exercises while balancing, as well, though my balance on the stability ball needs some work!  I think I need to purchase one of those things that I can attach cords to a door, so I can do workouts in hotels, and because our pull-up bar won't fit in any doorways.

Hubby wants to go for a bike ride today, so I'm not sure whether I'll get to Balance and Power later, though I'd really like to do the entire week's workout.  We'll see.  The bike may be chilly!

Only 2 weeks until Ironman AZ for hubby!  Very excited and nervous for him.  And starting to worry a little about keeping the kids entertained for the entire day.  And a little worried about the weather, as it's in the 90s in Phoenix this weekend.  I was hoping they'd be racing in the 60s, or 70s at the most!

P90X2 Day 3

Being in a hotel room, I switched things around a bit and did X2Yoga today, will have to do Total Body and Ab Ripper tomorrow, and won't have a day off on Sunday.  I did run for a few yesterday and felt it in my calves from Plyocide :)  On to X2Yoga...I would agree with other reviewers that I like it better than Yoga X.  It was always difficult for me to commit 90 minutes, and so I would skip many of the balance postures and some of the stretches.  X2Yoga has fewer superfluous moves, and it seems to flow much better.  My glutes hurt!  I don't think I sweated as much as I do with Yoga X, and there is less ab work, but overall, I liked it.

P90X2, Day 2

Completed Plyocide this morning, which was a lot of work, but I was able to do all but one of the moves!  Later I went out to buy some new clothes...oh, boy!  Glad I started this program today, but I think I might incorporate some swim, bike, and run to speed things along...

P90X2...Day One

Just for fun, I thought I would try out the new P90X2.  I have done numerous (too many to count) rounds of P90x over the past few years, which gets a little boring, so I thought it was time to try something new.  Besides, its focus on core strength, stability, and flexibility seems to dovetail nicely with my soon-to-be decided racing and training plan for 2013.

Today was X2 Core.  Some of the moves are complicated, and my stability ball was not properly inflated, AND I don't yet have a medicine ball, but despite all of that, I think it went fairly well.  I can't yet tell how sore I am, but I did sweat and huff and puff a bit, which are good signs.  I felt like going for a run afterward, and next time I'll go with my gut and run if I want to.  As a bonus, it includes foam rolling instead of stretching at the beginning, which I am sooooo happy about (and not) because I am supposed to be rolling out that damned IT band and my quads regularly, but often forget or don't feel like it.  Yay!  I'll keep posting about it.  So far, so good....

Just keep swimming...

I hit the pool today for the first time in, oh, I don't know, 2 months?  I was motivated by a post on Active.com.  A man asked how to get your swimming MOJO back, how to be motivated to swim when you are not motivated to swim, and one very wise woman basically said to just talk yourself into it, and you won't regret it.  I heeded her advice this morning, and she was correct.  It wasn't pretty, but I did it, and I felt better afterward!

I am thinking about races for next year, if I don't sign up for IMAZ, and I'm thinking maybe a few tris, a marathon, and Imogene.  Too much, you say?  Perhaps.  I need motivation to keep training, and races have motivated me in the past.  Hopefully I'll stay injury-free.

Speaking of injuries, my lateral meniscus, which I assumed was really just an IT Band issue, appears to have healed.  Thank goodness, because that is some serious pain!  I hate rolling, but I think it helps.  I have been able to run almost 4 miles again, and while I feel my LM, it does not hurt.  I don't think I have had enough compassion for people with injuries in the past.  It was terrible not being able to run.  I felt sad, unmotivated, and deflated.  I'm hoping never to feel that myself again...

IT Band issues...

...have basically killed my running for now.  It all started back, such a long, long time back...

At the Missoula Half-Marathon, actually, or training for it, anyway.  I have decent days and terrible, terrible days.  I am in ART, trying to get it worked out, but I'll tell you, this problem has ZAPPED my motivation to ride and swim, as well.  I'm not sure why, other than I feel completed discouraged and deflated.  Boo!  And just when I think it's getting better and there is hope, it starts bothering me again.

Sigh.

Friday, July 27, 2012

Holy crap! It's been a month!!

I find it hard to believe it's been a month since I've posted.  Sigh.  Like most things, I have great intentions and then fall off the wagon once I actually start something, if I start at all.  Which brings me to training.  I think, even though I would have denied it while it was happening, I had some sort of post-race blues or training slump after my half-ironman.  Motivation has been lacking.  I've missed two races (FORGOT to pick up my race packet on Saturday for one of them), did some half-assed training for another (which I will expand upon in a minute), and generally have had noooooo problem talking myself out of getting up to train and talking myself into going back to sleep in the morning.  Put on 5-ish pounds during this time, as well.

But, I think I have turned a corner, and I will attribute it, deservedly or not, to Dr. Fuhrman's Eat to Live.  I have been doing it for 2 weeks and am LOVING it so far!  Vacation weight is almost all gone, and I am back at the gym.  Swam 1500m this morning, and I was able to run about 1.5 miles yesterday and walk another mile.  Got back on my bike this week, as well.  Long story short, I'm hoping I'm back.  I have an oly tri schedule for mid-September, and I'd really, really like to race it.  So, I'm training.  And eating better.

Missoula 1/2 Marathon Race Report

My plan for this race was to beat my time of 2:46 from last year, which I knew was totally do-able given I am consistently running about 1:00 faster per mile this year.  HOWEVER, approximately 2 weeks before the race, I went on a long run and after about 8 miles, I could not run another step and had to walk about a mile home.  S#it!  It was my IT band, I'm pretty sure, but on my other leg.  I went to see Dr. Wilkens to get some ART, and it helped a little, but I was terrified!  I ran a few times once we got to Missoula, but was only able to go 2-3 miles before pain began to set in.  So, I rolled, iced, ibuprofened, and stretched for 3 days, and by the day of the race, I felt ready.

Will was running the race with me, as was BS and CB, so this year's bus ride was much more entertaining.  There were superheros in underwear at the start, and a ginormous line for the bathroom.  I was smart this time and took some immodium before we left the house, which really helped my nervous stomach.  We lined up, the cannon went off, there were fireworks, and we were off!  CB, BS, and Will were off like a shot and lost me immediately.  I turned on Runtastic (not so much "tastic", as I would later come to realize), and got into a groove.  There is a slight incline initially, so I took it a little easy so as to not aggravate the IT band too early, but then I was on pace to smash last year's time.  The coolest thing about this year is that even though I had not trained quite as hard, I knew that I could make the distance because I had done it twice before.  The only thing that would get in my way was the stupid IT.  It began hurting ever so slightly at about mile 8 and I popped an ibuprofen.

Mile 10, still happyish
By mile 10, it was really letting me know it was not happy and might not cooperate with my plans.  I had been walking aid stations, but after walking around mile 11, re-initiating running was very, very painful.  I decided to run through mile 12 aid station, because I hurt so badly and was quite sure I would not be able to start running again once I stopped.  Shortly after that aid station, I just couldn't take the stabbing pain for one more second, and I decided to walk the last mile.

I was sooooooo pissed, frustrated, and disappointed.  Argh!  My time:  2:53 something, 6 minutes slower than last year, but still faster than Al Roaker ;)

Finish line, PISSED

The really bad part came later, though.  I cannot express how much pain I was in for the next week, especially when I would sit for an extended period and then stand again.  Holy moly.  So, the fact that I have taken a few weeks off might make more sense to readers.  I probably should not have kept running on it...I should have either stopped running at mile 10 or DNF'd.  But, being the stubborn-ass that I am, I didn't stop, and I am just hopeful I haven't done permanent damage.

Anyway, thanks for reading if you did.  :)

Zyrtec and running

Google this phrase, and not a lot of information pops up.  However, I tried to run after taking 1/2 tab of Zyrtec the other morning, and my legs felt like they were filled with lead, my heart rate was skyrocketing, and I was so irritable about the wind I could not run one more step!!!  Needless to say, I have burned this experience into my brain so that I never, ever again take Zyrtec when I have training to do.

On a brighter note, only one more long run (12 mi) until I can taper for Missoula (yay!).  I was supposed to do that run last weekend, but life got in the way, so I am hoping to do it Saturday AM.  We shall see!  My 10 mile run was mediocre.  I felt like I had to stop a lot toward the end, but my pace may have been too fast.  I did not wear my HRM, because I forgot to charge it :(, but I"m guessing it was up there.  I felt like it was a Zone 4 effort at times, even on little hills.  I began to fear I have not been running enough, which might be true.  Sigh.  My consistency sucks.  I wonder what other wax/waners do to run consistently....
